Reiki for Mental Health Professionals

I am so glad you found your way to this blog post.

Perhaps you are a mental health professional interested in Reiki for your own self-care or how it can benefit your clients.

First, a brief background about me.

I earned my MSW from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in May 2014. I landed my first job in the mental health field and experienced a near death experience in June 2014. I came across the book The Reiki Toolkit by Susan Pease Bannitt a few weeks later and saw a short blurb about "Reiki". My interest was piqued and I booked my session the following week. As the practitioner came up to let me into the building I instantly felt at ease. I fell asleep not even 5 minutes into the session and woke up to the color purple fading in and out. My practitioner told me I was a healer and that my job was getting to me. She encouraged me to take a shower at the end of my work day. I didn’t know what to make of the word “healer” and I thought it was too early into my job to say it was already getting to me. I followed her advice figuring I had nothing to lose; I did feel better.

I have fallen in love with Reiki.  I received my Level I attunement in April 2015 and my Reiki Master Teacher certification in August 2016. It was with me during a stint at a job I dreaded going to and assisted me with finding a much better position. I put “Reiki” on my resume and it definitely helped me land my current position. Reiki also helped me to really connect with clients who were interested in utilizing it. One client who was diagnosed with anxiety and depression began to have a brighter affect and was able to decrease their antidepressant and anxiety medication. Another client connected with their deceased family member and sometimes requested Reiki during periods of high anxiety. I now organize Reiki Clinics for survivors of sexual violence. We collect feedback from attendees and it has been amazing. Reiki is making a difference in the lives of trauma survivors.

Reiki can assist mental health practitioners with their own physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well being. Regular Reiki sessions assist with preventing burnout and instilling resilience. If you become a Reiki practitioner you can begin to give yourself Reiki. A Reiki attunement is an energetic upgrade which can lead to physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual healing.

If you are interested in learning how Reiki can benefit your clients I encourage you to consider signing up for my Reiki attunement classes where I share my experience with utilizing Reiki in a mental health and therapeutic setting. I also encourage you to consider purchasing the book Psychotherapeutic Reiki: A Holistic Mind-Body Approach to Psychotherapy by Richard R. Curtin, Jr., Psy. D., RMT.

My first Reiki Level I for Mental Health Professionals class will be held August 26th, 2017 in Chicago, IL. Class will run from 11:00am to 5:00pm. Check out this link to the Facebook event
